The XCERTS have dropped their sixth LP, “i think i want to go home now.”, marking a compelling homecoming for the Aberdeen-formed, Brighton-based trio. After a decade exploring bold sonic directions, the band reconnects with the urgent, intimate sound that first won them such a loyal following across the UK!
The record, recorded at Beehive Studios with producer Larry Hibbitt, is the result of a collaborative process not seen from the group since their early days. Featuring eleven tracks spun from a period of personal upheaval—including the loss of bassist Jordan Smith’s mother and vocalist Murray Macleod’s father’s cancer diagnosis—the album channels grief and resilience into a whirlwind of fuzzed-up guitars, sharp melodies, and cathartic lyrics.
The band’s signature emotional honesty pulses through standouts like (no caps on purpose!), “sinking feeling”, “do it to myself” and “pretty ugly”, shifting from introspective to soaring without missing a beat. Fans of early LPs “In The Cold Wind We Smile”, “Scatterbrain” and “There Is Only You” will find much to love here, but there’s a new clarity that speaks to two decades of hard-earned maturity.
Macleod says, ‘It was really time for us to band together and celebrate our friendship. This really is the purest Xcerts record there’s been since the first one. We dug really deep to discover what the defining sound of our band is and bled it all out.’
The band celebrate the release with a string of in-store shows this July, alongside an album playthrough at 2000 Trees Festival and support dates with Twin Atlantic this October.
