The Festival where Girls Move the World!

The first ever Girls in Dance Festival is a festival for girls aged 13-18 years who enjoy dancing to get inspired, empowered, learn about leadership and be part of a community of like-minded girls!

The Girls in Dance Festival offers girls a safe space to connect, grow and be yourselves, using dance as a transformative tool in that journey. It will be an opportunity to have fun, learn about careers in dance, and learn skills to become change makers in your personal and future professional lives.

You can attend on your own, with friends or as part of a group. Either way, you will have chances to connect with other girls.

WHERE? Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham
WHEN? Monday 28th July, 10am-4:30pm
WHO? Our charity is an inclusive space: this event is open to self-identified girls, 13-18 years old. Any girl who enjoys dancing in any capacity (whether in a dance school, community centre, at school or at home!) is welcome.

Curated and organised by the charity AWA DANCE, this is a unique in-person event that celebrates girls’ futures with:

  • dance workshops
  • interactive stalls
  • Stands to buy items
  • Professional role models from leading organisations and individuals
  • and more, to inspire the next generation of girls through the power of dance.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

    F.A.Q.

Is the Girls in Dance Festival accessible?
You can find all the information on the accessibility of the Midlands Arts Centre here.
We will also have a quiet chill-out room you can use if you are experiencing sensory overload and need to step away from the crowd.

If you need an adult to accompany you in order to access the Festival, we are happy to accommodate it. Please email vittoria@awadance.org to discuss further.

We will ask you to give us any details about your access requirements in the booking form and we will do our best to accommodate them. If you would like to discuss you access needs with us in more detail, please email vittoria@awadance.org.

What do I need to bring to the Festival?
We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and shoes to attend our dance workshops.
Some stalls will be selling products, so we suggest you bring some money with you if you would like to make purchases.
Lunch is included in the price of the ticket. We suggest you bring a water bottle that you can fill up throughout the day at our water stations.

What Health & Safety measures are you putting in place?
We are constantly working and reviewing our Health & Safety measures with our expert consultants. Please find below some of the measures we are enforcing to ensure the safety of the girls attending the Girls in Dance Festival:

  • A Safeguarding Lead will be on site for the whole event
  • Our team of staff and volunteers all have enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding training. Everyone who is part of the Festival will be briefed with our Safeguarding rules and policy.
  • As part of our booking process, we ask ticket holders to tell us their accessibility needs, medical conditions and allergies, and the details of two emergency contacts.
  • Everyone involved in the Festival (including team, volunteers, guests, teachers, etc) will be women.

Any questions not listed here? Please contact vittoria@awadance.org.

We will keep updating this section and our website with more information.
