Sometimes a great tradition is hiding under our very noses. John Gardner and William “Doc H” Harris were much-loved fixtures of the English organ scene, and York Bowen was once called the “English Rachmaninoff”. Thomas Trotter showcases their music today, between two pillars of very different traditions – Buxtehude, the baroque master who inspired Bach, and the gothic drama of Louis Vierne’s massive Fourth Symphony.
