Traditional songs are those which have been passed down by word of mouth perhaps across many generations. The ones that have survived the longest are those which carry the most meaning to the people who have sung them – ritual songs, ballads, work songs, tales of courtship and seduction and of course songs of good company.
While celebrating the songs that are our heritage, lets also celebrate the generations of people who learned them, sang them, and passed them on – and what better way to do this than to sing the songs ourselves?
The Traditional Arts Team runs song sessions every month, open to all.
It also organises occasional day workshops with inspirational tutors, and developed the Folk Song Cafe, where songs and supper mingle and a great night is had by all.
