Awards season is looming and that means good news for some of the UK’s best-unsigned talent, due to the return of the Unsigned Music Awards (or UMAs).
Brought to life by BIMM (British & Irish Modern Music Institute) alumnus Simon O’Kelly, the UMAs are set to mark the beginning of this year’s Great Escape Festival, and will take place at the Brighton Centre.
With an incredible nine students in total up for awards in several key categories, BIMM acts from across various courses will come together with industry high-rollers, taste-makers and artists for this event, one that has firmly staked out it’s place as one of the UK’s key events for new and unsigned artists.
Discussing BIMM’s involvement in the UMAs, BIMM’s Artist Development & Events Manager Suzi Ireland said:
“BIMM are proud to be a part of an event that celebrates and rewards the hard work that goes into launching, running and maintaining a band in this competitive industry. We are sponsoring the ‘Best Record’ award this year, and cannot wait to hear who wins. At the awards, keep an eye out for loads of our students working behind the scenes helping to make the show happen, and gaining valuable experience and contacts at the same time.”
BIMM London’s Michelle Humphreys who heads up Events, Masterclasses and Artist Development shared her response to seeing so many BIMM students nominated at the UMAs:
“It’s a massive achievement and great recognition for such hardworking artists as they begin or continue their ventures in the music industry. Huge congratulations and good luck from everyone at BIMM!”
